What is it?

  • New York State’s Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP) is designed to improve the nutritional well-being of New York’s low-income residents by reducing hunger, malnutrition and nutritionally related illness.

  • It benefits the food insecure on Long Island by providing Long Island Cares lines of credit to purchase nutritious foods, as well as food safety and sanitation supplies.

Who is eligible?

  • Food pantries and soup kitchens with 501C3 status, at least 6 months proof of operation, all required permits (i.e. soup kitchen required permit) and an a board of directors.

How do I apply?

  • Application submission for 2025-2026 funding period will be open 3/31/2025. The applications will be emailed out to your primary email address on file.

Information Sessions:

  • March 25, 2025 and March 27, 2025 via Zoom- Call in information to be shared via email.

How do I access?

  • Food Bank grant awardees will receive an award letter and will have access on the portal to begin shopping effective July 1, 2025.
